The road to the World Cup also leads to Rob!

*Dear Rob, sometimes we get letters to you that are disguised as letters to us.. and since it’s about the World Cup, which starts today, I thought you wouldn’t care…*

So tell us Stephenie, does Rob read LTR every day or every other hour?

Hello there Moon and UC,

Firstly I am still so excited about your BIG news! There is absolutely no way in Hale that SMeyers picked you two out at random! I’m keeping my fingers crossed that you’ll be able to film it. You two can be shrouded in darkness like on those must ‘protect the witness in an interview ‘style programmes… BUT there are more pressing matters because today…

Something big is happening. It’s overshadowing every aspect of everyday real life, it follows you everywhere! Our whole society closes down and gathers at the nearest Pub with a large screen TV to witness it. No not the release of Eclipse…but that’s a close-call though. It’s not the MTV Movie Awards. It’s the 2010 FIFA World Cup. And it starts today: June the 11th. It rivals the ‘United Nations of I wanna bang Rob’ in the ability to bring the world together, it’s that good.

I don’t know if Americans get football yet? Maybe/ And when I say football I’m talking Soccer, ‘cept its called Football.

LET'S DO THIS!

Anyway, your team USA must be getting pretty good, you’re in the tournament, and in the same group as England. We play each other June 12th. In fact I’m reckoning you could possibly even beat us. Which is so true to our form as seasoned under-achievers. That slow-clap picture you used last week was our former captain John Terry balling his little eyes out at our last exit. On penalties. Yet again.

Here’s my point, Finally. Whilst speculating on teams/players with friends this past weekend, I was once again reminded of Rob. The official England song for 1990 was possibly the best of all time. It was also the last time England got freakin ANYWHERE. It gets played all the time over here. It has the ability to give everyone goosebumps, one of my friends even Youtubed from his phone, and lo and behold everything reminded me of Rob.

It’s all there: Ray bans, Mullets, wonky legs, Lily Allen’s dad!

(Not really the last one. But I know, it’s #Random!)

Oh my god. There is truly no hope for me. I kind of love this but also despair at myself.

Love and Sparkles
Goodgirl Gone Plaid.x.o.
PS Praying for No penalties!

Express yourself! Create the space!

Dear Rob,

After having watched the video GoodGirl sent us, I think I truly understand you. Your entire life, your persona, your style has been based off this video and song. I’m sure this video and the ’90 team from England made a really big impact on you. Sporty Englishmen singing about “expressing yourself” while juggling balls all the while a floating head in Ray Bans sings “express yourself, create the space, you know you can win” next to a wall of beefy man legs running after balls probably explains a lot more than we want to think about.

I’m glad you’re kindred spirits with a man who sports a wicket mullet and buzz cut hair combo, but I still gotta say it: we’re gonna wipe the floor with your team! SUCK IT ROB! SORRY! It’s not that I care so much or even know everything there is to know about Soccer (yup, most of us call it that here), it’s that I’m American and we love nothing more than to dominate at sporting events especially when it’s on a world level and the team bears our countries name. You know us and patriotism.

Wait, this isn't football!

That being said, I do want to clear up some rumors. Though most Americans call it Soccer and though it’s not our countries most popular sport we know A LOT about it. This country loves itself some Soccer, just drive by a park on a Saturday morning and you’ll see hundreds of kids playing soccer for the Y or their city league. I should know, I grew up playing the sport and still love to play it or kick the ball around for fun.

I know LA has a pretty big group of residents from other countries and I know a lot of them gather to watch Soccer matches, getting shit faced at the pub at 10 in the morning because of the time difference between here and wherever games are being played that day. I hope you’re one of them this week or at least find some other English folks to hang out with as America hands your team it’s ass. BOOYAH!!!

GOOOOOOOAAAAAALLL!!!
Themoonisdown

PS Seriously U-S-A, U-S-A, U-S-A!!! Slow chant with me people!

Ok so who’s gonna break the World Cup down for us? EDUCATIONAL MOMENTS! Goodgirl got us started, lets keep going with predictions, what will Rob be doing during this? Who’s going to any games… and GOOO!!! This is your time for unabashed nationalism!

HAHAHAHAH nice letter. Me and Dutch Josie were half way through a letter about the world cup, the Dutch and Rob to send to UC and Moon. But Dutchjosie didn’t have time to translate the letter in good english. Goaaaaaaaaaaaaal!!!

  2. “It rivals the ‘United Nations of I wanna bang Rob’ ” hahahaha, ILY GG!

I secretly (no, actually openly, out loud) hope that France will loose soon so I can at least dream of one moment doing smth other than watching football at the pub while everybody is really stressed about the game. I sometimes film them, cause they’re ridiculous like that, but after ten nights in a row they’re a bit less fun. Why can’t tennis or skiing be such a big deal?

LA gals, I hope you already have a list of the British pubs with drunk people at 10 AM b/c you just know he’s goona go for the real thing. And nothing equals drunk British football fans. Nothing and nobody I tell you.
Oh, and you know the US will suck at it, I mean you know it, right? 🙂

    • melronin says:

I absolutely agree with your choice of Britboys!!!

I’m with Mel. I want England to win, too.

  8. dazzledtodeath says:

Sorry to say, I know next to nothing about soccer other than where I live, it’s played by little kids. And I’ve heard of David Beckham (does he still play??), who filled out his CK tightie whities nicely a few years ago.
And I’ve heard the fans can be a bit excitable.

I just don’t associate Rob with soccer (or any sport). He doesn’t seem coordinated enough-like there would be wonky legs and arms flailing all over the place.

    • Dionrenee says:

      Totally agree on that one!!!

    • mine!mine!mine! says:

Becks still plays (was playing for some team in America LA Galxay but on loan to Milan) but he’s out injured for a few months, injury v. bad, could actually be the end of his footballing career. He would have gone to this world cup with England but for the injury. And he is still the best passer of a football in the world bar none. We’ve also lost Ferdinand (bad stoke of luck) but so long as we don’t lose Rooney we may still stand a chance.

    • robgirl86 says:

BUT Rob can hold the beer bottle like NOBODY else!!!!!lol

      • mine!mine!mine! says:

        @RG

I’m sure you’re right, but I have a feeling that there’s quite a few posting on this site that could probabaly give him a run for his money with regard to holding the beer bottle like NOBODY else. 🙂

      • misty says:

bwahahahahah! your better believe it, with a ciggie in that same hand too!

        • robgirl86 says:

misty, we call that “passive soccerexpert” here, that are the ones , that KNOW all …about soccer, while holding a beer and smoking in a pub! I think Rob belongs def. to that category!

          • misty says:

            agreed.
“passive soccerexpert”, may I modify it to ” passive soccer-sex-pert” it just makes we wanna play too 🙂

        • mine!mine!mine! says:

          @misty

          bwhahahaha ‘passive soccer (football!!!!) sexpert’

          that was brillz 🙂

          • misty says:

just sayin’ if Rob’s gonna be anything in sports, lets make it easy for him + something we know he GOOD at, i.e. matress wrestling…mmmm

    • robsfuturemate says:

In the twi-com, Rob says he used to play end goal. Is that the same as goalie? (the American girls wants to know!) And he didn’t sound like he was very good so D2D, I totally agree with you!

    • drsaka says:

As the goalie, he said that when trying to stop the ball, his fingers would bend back (double jointed fingers- ah, the possibilities) and the ball would hit him in the face!!!!!

    @MP

Tennis or skiing…please those games are like watching paint dry compared to the ‘beautiful game’.

    OXOX

    UC & MOON

and can we please STOP calling it Soccer it’s not Soccer it’s FOOTBALL, always as been, always will be, and I resent the fact that it gets called soccer so that the some countries *cough USA* can distingush between American Football (fake Rugby) and Football (Soccer)

    XOXO

    @GGGP

The best Footie song is ‘Three Lions’ not sodding ‘Vindalo’…vid funny but that song is all kinds of bad.

    XOXO

    and UC and MOON
Not a chance! USA are going down on Saturday, we will thrash the pants off of them 🙂 well we will so long as it doesn’t go to penalties, then you will, of course, win. We have the worst record (only 50% shots on goal successful) in the World for taking penalties. German, have the best they haven’t missed a penalty since 1990.

Anyway I have my wall chart, I’ve worked out every possible combination of teams England could/will meet on their way to the final….it’s not looking good!!! and if they somehow manage to get knocked out (again) I’ll be supporting my back-up team…..BRAZIL!!!

    Oh by the way

    Did I win a BIJ tee 🙂

    xoxoxo

    • mine!mine!mine! says:

      @GGGP

I wasn’t talking about the vid posted – I can’t view it so I’m not sure what’s on it 🙂

    • eatmyjorts says:

I’m so glad you said it minex3!

Not a hope that the USA footie team are going to beat England! That’s like saying a major league Baseball team is going to lose to the local Junior School Girl’s Rounders team. Yes, one of your beloved national sports is played here by (pretty much exclusively) feeble infants & drunk people on beaches 🙂

But I like your fighting spirit. Say it, out loud, ‘Football!’

      • Lindelle says:

omg, I love the heckling going on today! heckle heckle heckle!
I can’t wait for the USA/England game tomorrow, just for the huge trash talk competition with my LTT/R British friends!

        • JellyBeanRainbow says:

I hope we’re still friends after our big little Slovenia beats both of the teams +Algeria and in group C. Yes, there really is a believe around here that they can win.
But we all now Spain will. Again.

    • The Old One says:

Maybe we should call it “Futbol” vs. “Football”. I know it sounds the same when you say it – out loud – but perhaps we could add a little foreign accent in there to distinguish it?

      • The Old One says:

Oh, and who knew a bunch of ladies could get so worked up about a sport! Is it Rob’s influence? Whatever he might be even slightly interested in, we’re all over it!

  10. misty says:

    Dear Rob,

Here in Windsor, Ontario World Cup is a BIG deal. There is such a large Italian community here (forca Italia) that they close down our Little Italy, fill the streets with vendors and we watch the World Cup on a HUGE screen.

i wanted you to know that even though my parents are from Argentina (so naturally I root for Argentina) and we are of Italian decent (I root for them too) and my favourite uncle lives in Spain (so I cheer for them too) this year I’m also cheering for England (just for YOU)!

    Viva Futbol!

Misty, back in 2006 I was in Rome when Italia won, all italians went nuts…like really NUTS…and that was somehow an unique experience….
and LTR is the only place I can tell that, cause here in Germany I’d have to leave the country fo a while….oh my

      • melronin says:

You can always come to Greece and watch the german
team play, while you are happy for the Italian team to win, while you are secretly hoping England will hold the cup…while pretending you are all for Germany!!!
How does that sound to you???
And I will protect ya from all the greek men…wanting to kick your ass!!!

    • Mine!Mine!Mine! says:

      @Misty

      Love you lots, but Argentina………NOOOOOOOOOOO.

That team produced the worste cheat in the world, I am of course talking about the shamefull ‘hand of god’ incident *blood boiling*.

He’s now the manager of the national team…and I don’t think they have much of a chance. In the lead up to the world cup they just managed to get in by the skin of their teeth. This was possibly due to the fact the M (can’t bring myself to type his name) couldn’t decided who the hell was going to be in his team. Of the possible 72 players he used during the qualifying rounds he was the only Manager who couldn’t make up his mind who to play, who to take etc. The team has had no cohesion…I’m hopful they will not make it out of the Group Stage. I’m also hoping that France, German, Portugal and Spain don’t either!!! 🙂

      • misty says:

@RG Italians know how to party and you saw that first hand (hence why I keep saying your so lucky to live in Europe)…..just for you I’ll cheer for the Germans too <3 Just tell me how to say Viva Alemania in German now!

@Mine!x3 I was going to say you are my new hero with your comment to MP about skiing and tennis, you are so funny…….but now you just scare me with all the facts you know about sports…my Gwad woman…..but I still luv you! p.s. his name is Maradona lol!

Am trying to get out of work to watch the opening game but am having problems doing so….I’m actually starting to feel anxious cos It’s going to start soon and I’m still here at my desk. 🙁

            @Mine

I’m just kidding with you 🙂 I hope you get out soon, I’m leaving here soon too and I’ll be thinking of you everytime Argentina plays…….and England too, my little British Minx.

            GO WORLD!!!

p.s. I’m happy that the games are taking place in South Aftrica. Hopefullly this will bring attention to all their needs throughout Africa.

Hope USA wins the World Cup….sorry UK….soccer is not my cup of tea…now if Rob were playing with those “wonky” legs of his I would def become a huge fan of soccer!

    • mine!mine!mine! says:

      @J9

Football (not soccer) was first played in the British Isles (that’s the origins of football we play today, though other countries have kicked a ball around (or an head) long before the actual game was played in UK, but this was not football.

It has always been known as football and not soccer. Another form of Football is Rugby (also originating from the British Isles) which is played in America day (or a version of it) and is known as American Football.

As a FOOTBALL fan, I kinda get a bit upset when it’s called soccer….silly I know, but nobody in England (or Europe and Africa) would call the game Soccer. It’s Football or the ‘beautiful game’.

      x 🙂

      • eatmyjorts says:

        That’s because it’s beautiful.

P.S. Anyone care to explain to me why ‘American Football’ is so stop/start? I get motion sickness watching it.

        • mine!mine!mine! says:

          @eatmyjorts

I have no idea…it’s seems a bit mad to stop a game in full swing for (is it 5min, 10mins or 15mins) just to show adverts. Is that why it happens so that sponsers get their air time?

        • The Old One says:

That’s the first thing I noticed when I watched the World Cup a few years ago–“Oh this is so much more enjoyable, not all that stopping for advertising every few minutes!” I swear when American Football is played without being televised, they do have start/stops but not like it is on national TV. It’s all about the millions of dollars of advertising.

      • Chanel says:

      • Chanel says:

South Africans call it Soccer, always have…

        • mine!mine!mine! says:

          @Chanel
So. they are wrong it’s Football not Soccer. The game was invented in UK it was called Football, we’ve always called it Football, and I’m talking about the game Football not just kicking a ball around. Any self respect football fan in England (and most of Europe) would never call the game Soccer, because that terms is usually used by people who haven’t got a clue about the game. Now I am not saying that people in other countries who use the term soccer instead of football don’t understand the game, I’m just saying that they are calling our wonderful game by the wong name.

Lets call American Football, Rugby and so how soon the American get fed up.

          • j9necessary says:

Whoa…didn’t mean to offend anyone by calling your football by the “S” word…mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa! (sp)

Don’t think American football fans would be as touchy if you called it by any other name…so have at it!

          • mine!mine!mine! says:

I am almost certain that americans would be very upset if suddenly half the world decided that instead of calling it American Football they would now call it Rugby.

I’m not trying to, nor mean to be a bitch but Football is about the only sport I watch, love, feel passionate about, and I just prefer it to be refer to as Football (original name for the game) and not Soccer.

Anyway, apparently the term Soccer originates from England also – not quite sure what point I’m trying to make so I’m giving up. I am clearly upsetting people, and I have alread had an argument with someone in the office today over football. I think I perhaps should bow out gracefully.

        • Marthella Minne says:

no we dont!!! not always – the guy from 567 Cape Talk is seriously ant-soccer and pro-football. it depends

  15. robsfuturemate says:

    Dear Rob,

I don’t really care for the sport of football (american or otherwise!). Or really any sport but the all american passtime! But, I will suck it up for you and join you at the pub. I know you’re all lonely here in the US and I’ll be there sporting some british slang just to make you feel more at home. Just name the time and place! 🙂

    Love,
    Your Mate

  16. Cazza says:

Well since Scotland didn’t even qualify this time…..things start to get complicated! You see, as a country, we now support any team except England. However, if England plays Germany, then we will support England! Yes, we are all the same country (United Kingdom of Great Britain) but when it comes to sporting events, we start acting like children!

    X

    • robgirl86 says:

the last time England won against Germany, Rob sucked the milk bottle …….just sayin 🙂

    • mine!mine!mine! says:

      @Cazza,

Yet were it the other way round we in England would support Scotland or Ireland if we didn’t get through.
We are so weird over here.

Please note I’ve missed out Wales in that list cos they NEVER get through, so they don’t count 🙂

  17. roslynstephanieselene says:

Woooo! I WANT A SHIRT….and hopes Mexico wins today since I am half from Mexican descent…No te miento, Rob! Por favor!

    • mine!mine!mine! says:

      @roslynstephanieselene

You and me both re. tee…I want to win a BIJ tee sooooooooooooooo bad!! 🙂

      • misty says:

        @Mine!

let’s just hope Rob shows up in South Africa, and some pap gets a NICE shot of his crotch so LTR will make a BISA shirt, with 2 giant soccer BALLS on it…I will BUY it for you!

      • roslynstephanieselene says:

=/ Well, I got up early at 6am (in LA)…just to see Mexico TIE a game. *faceplam and takes the Mexico jersey shirt off shamefully*
But yes, Mine!, today is the last day and we HAVE to comment our asses off for a damn shirt! Can’t wait till tmrw for the US vs Eng. game!
        Sorry Rob(and English friends),
but I’m American. An American’s gotta do what an American’s gotta do: U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!
Does anyone wanna bet an LTR shirt?

  18. Chanel says:

    YAY South Africa!!!!
Im so proud to be a South African hehe. Stadiums look great and flags are EVERYWHERE!!!

VUVUZELA’s are just driving is insane haha.. Seriously, google it…

    • robgirl86 says:

saw the show yesterday night and it was awesome!!!!
      Hooray for South Africa!!!!

      • Chanel says:

hehe yeah the opening party was cool! So happy Bafana Bafana didnt lose the opeing game against mexico! A draw is better than losing.

Hope everyone is enjoying the World Cup! 🙂

  19. lucypattz says:

Well, I will admit that I dont know a thing about football… either type, but if Rob was participating I am sure I could find the desire to learn

  20. che says:

    yayyyyyy
i truley luv Football.ok Turkey isn’t there (also i didn’t support them at the eleminations cuz mostly i hate the team)but this is World Cup!! and of course i support England. actually i even might cry when they lost aginst Portugal at 2006(and it had nothing to do with my huge croush for Lamps)but i’m not so exciting about this tournement cuz Capello sucks and i also heard that Rob hate their national team.
so my second favourite is Uruguay!!!!!!!!!

  21. Vera says:

The World Cup is being held in South Africa, we Brazilians love soccer, as well as the English. Robert is Arsenal (London team).

  22. che says:

here at the end he says he likes to hate english national team

  23. Just me says:

Hailing from the town of Liverpool in the UK but now living in the US I miss football 🙁

Saturday will find me in front of the telly, I might make some sausage rolls, we’ll have a few pints, maybe sing some family -friendly songs

“Who ate all the pies? Who ate all the pies? You fat b*stard. You fat b*stard”

    “The referee’s a w*anker! The referee’s a wanker”

I imagine Rob will find a bar somewhere and do something similar…

  24. Katie S says:

I swear, I live under a huge rock! If it weren’t for checking out Twitter last night I never would have known about the World Cup. Well, that and the Daily Show. There are some pretty hot guys on the LA team. Who know?!

But does it really rival the ‘United Nations of I wanna bang Rob’? That is a very powerful organization! Put them/us in the World Cup, say “you’re fighting not for ROB’S cup (and its contents),” and forget it. UNIWBR wins.

  25. […] This post was mentioned on Twitter by LetterstoTwilight, LetterstoTwilight. LetterstoTwilight said: It's 8 am ET, u know what that means, The road to the World Cup also leads to Rob! – http://tinyurl.com/2walbow […]

  26. Giz_L says:

This is the deal: if you’re Brazilian you gotta love soccer and understand a lot of it. My 4yo DD could judge a match and I’m not even kidding. It’s a big deal like that.
England maybe invented it, but we won the World Cup a record five times. We’re the only team to have played in every tournament. We have the best player of all times. It’s Brazil, beeyotches!

BTW, the referee of the next USAxEngland match is Brazilian. He’s a cheater, just sayin’… so, good luck to USA and England tomorrow.

See one of the other teams in the final match 🙂
    Rumo ao HEXA, Brasil!!!

    • mine!mine!mine! says:

      @Giz_L

I am England all the way, but if they get knocked out (that really should read when they get knocked out, but I live in hope) then I will (as always) be supporting Brazil. They are world class and yes we did invent the game, but you are right, Brazil are (perhaps) the best players of the game in the World.

Still hope we beat you though 🙂

      • che says:

no @mine Brasil isn’t the best.
best palyer is in Argentina(messi) but the best team is Spain
        and u didn’t invent Fottball
        it’s China 🙂

        • mine!mine!mine! says:

          @Che
sorry you are wrong. china kicked a ball around the rules of the game or rather the game that we play today, originates from the British Isles.

Like I said before Football was a UK game, kicking a ball around has been going on for Cth and can be traced back to many countries but all they were doing was kicking a ball. 🙂

  27. amynkansas says:

I forgot how much I LOVE the word “wanker”. That might have to be my word of the day today, in honor (or honour?) of the World Cup and England. And Rob.

    • mine!mine!mine! says:

      @amynkansa

I had a really great tee that I’d bought from the Serpintine Gallary in Hyde Park (lovely piece of art on the front) but across the top it had ‘wanker’ in big letters. I really really loved this tee. However, I got sent home from work…yes, work and not school, for wearing it because I had to attend a work do in the evening and my boss wouldn’t let me go in the tee…..!!!!!!!!

      • roslynstephanieselene says:

Hhahaha! High school uniform memories…I used to go to a religious SDA (Seventh Day Adventist) school in San Gabriel. They had a specific kind of navy blue shirt w/ the school’s logo on it. Well one day, I couldn’t find my last clean one so I put on a regular navy blue shirt and…STILL got sent home…wtf? How they found out, is beyond me cause I had my hair down that day to hide the evidence of the missing logo. Now I’ll never know what happened in speech class that day…
        😉

  28. Both Football and Cricket are a HUGE deal here in Bangladesh, even though our teams suck in both sports and doesn’t even play football in international level. They do play cricket and ask Shleeeigh and Jayde how majorly England and Australia (and every other team for that matter) have kicked our arse.
Anyway, as I was saying, these two sports are almost like religions here. In India, they actually put up players’ posters and worship them! Since the past one month, all the rooftops of every single building has at least one flag that had been put up by the enthusiastic sport watcher who resides there. Mostly you see Brazil and Argentina’s flags but Italy and Germany are pretty popular too.

Confession: I recognized Italy’s flag because I’ve seen it during the New Moon shoots at Montepulciano.

  29. Susiecueablelovesrob says:

Football….I have never been interested. DH and son watching right now on TV and I’m tucked away in my bedroom watching Rob and LTR!!! So much more fun and interesting!
But I must say I know how OBSESSED british boys are with football and I can sooooooo picture Rob playing (with his meaty thighs…..YUM) despite the wonky legs!

  30. roslynstephanieselene says:

I’m not a fan of soccer/futbol/football (except when Mex. is playing)so who I’m really going for is LAKERS!
Did anyone see the game last night?
That Celtics dude (#11) looked like a rabid pit bull.
Srsly…LAL annoyed me to no end when they kept missing the free throws. Gah! When I played in high school, I (almost) never missed those easy shots. Sorry to brag but I owned everyone’s ass when it came to free throws. *sigh* LOL
Oh yeah-Free Shirt OVER HERE…PLEAAASSSEE! Pretty please With a RobHobNob on top? 😉

  31. snowwhitedrifted says:

    Good luck to Tran!

Our print shop closed down this morning to watch Mexico play. My boss transformed his office into a soccer viewing area, complete with red cards and yellow cards. There were even Subway sandwiches. My wall almost came down when Mexico scored the goal.

…and there are sandwiches for the rest of us… GGGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAALLLLLL!!!!

    • roslynstephanieselene says:

Hahaha! I went to my parents’ house cause they made a HUGE breakfast for the game this morning(LA)! But in my fam, the only Mexican is my dad. When I came in, he forced a Mexico jersey on me and left to watch the game. The rest of my family are Salvadorian and they lost their shit when Mex scored. I just quietly nibbled on the pan dulce! Hhahaha!

      • roslynstephanieselene says:

Oh yeah and I want a shirt, please. =) So I can have an excuse for not wearing the jersey next time Mexico plays. Please! I don’t want to go through that again. I kid, I kid. But I’m ‘like serious’ about the LTR shirt…

  32. undecidedsten says:

Seeing as how Ireland didn’t qualify (again) i’ll just have to hope england don’t make it out of the group JOKE!!!!!!!!!!

We call it soccer (came from association football) here too sometimes to distinguish it from Gaelic football.

But seriously UN of I want to bang rob – pure gold!!!!

  33. Cath says:

I love me some football from time, did a bit of reporting on it in college and might have had a crush on some players.
I think I’d pay extra to see Rob play football (soccer) with those wonky legs of his…

But seriously, The Netherlands will win this time…muwhahahaha.
(Thanks for allowing me my illusions girls! )

I really won’t get my hopes up too much. Lots of Dutchies are already going mental, orange everywhere. (national colour)Commericials concerning the World Cup have been driving me crazy for a month, so I’m kind of relieved the actual thing has started now.

And Rob could support Holland too for a bit, they have this orange Heineken shirt, hahaha. Or maybe just this hat:

    http://www.heineken.nl/shop/producten/e-aanbieding/DMVVVSPEC000207/heineken-pletterpet

    You’re welcome Rob! 😉

P.S. Only wear this when very, very, very drunk!

  34. roslynstephanieselene says:

oh yeah, can anyone tell me what waka waka means?

  36. JellyBeanRainbow says:

I never watch any sport of any kind, because it’s so boooooooooooring. At the time of Football World or European championship, I suddenly become obsessed and watch all the games I can. I start to read sports newspapers, I collect stickers, I save newspapers’ special pull-out championship related mini booklets.

As our most famous young philosopher said: “football has all of the elements of big literature: it’s naration, it’s a story of courage, hatred, betrayal. In a football game you can see the elements of tragedy, catharsis included. In football I can see a philosophical system, I can see Aristotle, Shakespeare… It’s the only SPORT that interests me, everything else (basketbsll, handball, skiing…) is just working out.

    I agree.

  37. Janetrigs says:

    Love you….no really I do.

  38. AJ says:

Yeah! I am super stoked that LTR was all about the World Cup today (kinda). I’ve been trying to get everyone I know to be excited and it’s killing me.

My teams not in, but World Cup time is always exciting anyway. Plus the offical anthem this year is by a Somalian artist Ka naan who I love.

I cannot see Rob being into sports (correct me if someone knows things that I don’t here) But even Rob should be excited when this time comes around.

  39. Stacey says:

Two reasons I love the football played by the rest of the world to American football:
    1. Cuter players
    2. Cute English boys drinking in pubs/ bars

by the way, I hope the nice director of WFE gives Rob a break from seducing Reese Witherspoon to have a heineken and watch a game! :0)

I’m so happy that this post is about the World Cup. I’m in South Africa and we are the hosts. You will not believe the fuckawesome atmosphere in our country today. It’s electrifying and just absolutely amazing. There are parties everywhere, most companies let people leave early today to watch the matches at the stadiums or one of the many fan parks, or just at their homes. I’m still buzzing from our amazing match against Mexico, where we really gave them a run for their money, even though our team is not rated well. It’s just, words cannot the emotions we are experiencing today. Finally, Africa has a chance to shine. Aargh, I’m just so unbelievably proud and excited. South Africa FTW!!!!!!!!

    • Marthella Minne says:

hey im in Cape Town!!!! i love being a south african right now!! it rocks harder than granite!!! people are going flippin insane!!! i love vuvuzellas – they’re coolest sa invention ever

Did I really just spend 4 minutes watching some random soccer (football, I guess, but really people lets just follow the Americans on this one. We are very stubborn and you will all eventually call it soccer soon) video with mullets and wonky legs! Yes, yes I did. I must really love you LTTers cause I would not do that for anyone else, trust!

And just for the record we do know a bit about soccer (football, whatever you will come around) in the US. Why do you think that all our hot cougars are called “Soccer MOMS”!

    Love the letter Goodgirlgoneplaid!

I’m back and I feel the need to say sorry to everyone for being a bloody silly arse this afternnon……

Thoughts on the opening day of the world cup.

    1. Wish i was in SA….it looks like the party to be at.
    2. Excellent opening world cup goal…..really great, but really great.
    3. the french team appear to have the best looking players in the world cup…..so hot!…I really want ed the /french to win…which is pretty odd, I’m Englisgh 🙂
    4. I won the ‘Green Week’ compertition at work. I now have three rather niffty recycling bags in my Kitchen and a rather flash USB!!!!
    5. I’ve been watching football related programmes since 5pm. ooooo and another one’s just started.
    6. Cried when SA scored. Cried when a picture of a football came on TV. Cried when this old man from American relived his goal from the 1950 game which knocked England out of the world cup….then cried even more when he said that the whole team returned to USA and nobody gave a crap about what they had done…. and inaddition one of their team mates dissapeared shortly after because his family (including himself) had upset the government in Haiti. and histeam mates where talking about how great he was and what a good player he’d been. Loved the old men from that 1950’s team…..don’t you all realise they should have been reviered as national heros!!!!!

Sorry abou thth spelling, but I’m a little bit drunk.

Now where did I get too. oh yes…..

    7. cry when I think about the game tomorrow with USA….we are going to lose I just know it…….*sigh*

Anyway….I had loads to say, but I can’t remember what I was thinking earieir oon when I was thinking a bout posting somehting else on here.

Wish we had 24/7 football…can’t wait until tomorrow. Off to Trafalga square to watche all three games tomorrow. Willbe spending the first two games by self cos friends are rubbish and refuse to come out until Engalnd game……I intend to watch every single game of the world cup (well I’m going to try).

Also, Iwant to be on the World Cup bus in SA.

Good night everyone…….have a great world cup.

    sorry if I upset anyone…..really.

    xoxox

    I. LOVE. THE. WORLD. CUP……SO HAPPY, EXCITED AND wondering if I’ve won the BIJ tee *please*

  44. TeamSeth says:

Okay, this is way late in the day for commenting, but I just found out that LTR’s topic was the World Cup. And I had to say to Good Girl Gone Plaid my snippy comment about Terry’s amazing penalty effort at the 2008 Champion’s League final in Moscow against ManU. I have to wonder if he gave Wayne Bridge the same “I slipped” excuse… 😉

Anyway, me and the sexy frightenedflips (and calliope I hear) will send good vibes from South Africa! 🙂 Leg Hitch 2010 after watching Spain beat Portugal at Green Point stadium! Let’s do this!

  45. Yeah, my roommates think I’m crazy for filling up our DVR full of World Cup games while I am at work…

And you should see my Tweets, well some of them… PLUS if you use a #worldcup then a lil soccer ball follows leaving you to a live stream for other tweets abut it… same with country #hastags like #eng or #usa or #aus! pretty cool, eh?

    Go #eng!

  46. irishpixie82 says:

    (formerly dixiepixie82)

I love me some soccer but I won’t be watching the match tomorrow. We were going to watch it with friends but now only the hubs is going and I am taking the kids to a pool party/bbq.

:whispers: am i a bad american if I secretly kinda want england to win? I can’t help it…I don’t pay attention to american football/soccer. I don’t even know who any of their players are.

I LIVE IN SOUTH AFRICA (the host….)

its craziness here – haha, mexico, haha – we didnt lose

i love siphiwe (see-pee-weh) tshabalala (shuh-buh-luh-luh) almost as much as i love rob and edward!!!! go Bafana Bafana (the boys the boys)

dont you think it would be really cool if the holy trinity came down here for the world cup an rob decided to streak at the quarter finals? (coz i’m gonna be there?) Yes? i think so too

on a slightly less important note than streaking rob…. maybe now the world will know that we dont ride elephants, hunt lions for food and we do have electricity *que halleluja choir thingy.

i love SA, you guys will too.

to make you love it more…. rob lived here awhile back BT (before twilight)… in cape town… where i live ;D
