Two words for the Water for Elephants film makers…

It's a maaaaaannnn's world!

Dear Rob,

Since UC and I have been so busy with work and the holidays we can’t seem to find 10 minutes together to break down that blasted Water for Elephants trailer that came out LAST WEEK. Sure, we’ve emailed back n forth little one liners with our thoughts though that wouldn’t do it justice. BUUUTTT I do have one thing to say about the trailer and I’d like to direct it towards the film makers…

……………………………………..

Dear Water for Elephants Film makers,

THANK YOU. Why you ask? I haven’t even seen the movie yet, it could be total crap, that circus music was creepy, we didn’t even make it mysterious or make the public wonder why the should see this film, so why are you thanking us you’re asking. I know. I know. But I still have to say thank you for one reason…

Uh huh!

Thank you for making Robert Pattinson look like a MAN.

Clearly, we love ourselves some Edward and we appreciate that he’s pulled off playing a teenager. And sure we love some angsty college boys who are mad at the world, pick fights with their dad and ride a 10 speed through the rain to blow off steam. And who doesn’t love any Brit kid who ends up in Harry Potter. And of course… Daniel Gale.

A man in some movie like this???

But for the first time I can clearly say, wow this is a man and all this time can be sort of justified. Ok, ok that’s taking it a bit far but maybe this movie will be a turning point for our dear Rob. God knows this needs to be a success for him so he can prove he can open a movie outside the teen vampire genre. Fingers crossed for him. It’s funny to be writing this while Pirate Radio plays in the background and seeing Tom Stu in a role that apparently he found on Rob’s floor and wondering what could have been if Rob had taken something like this. A smaller role where he’s not the sole lead in a smaller project with some huge names in Britian’s film scene (AND Philip Seymour Hoffman!!!). Who knows… maybe we’ll see something like this from Rob in the future but until then I’m excited for April and hope this is a great film for Rob.

In the meantime, another big thank you!

XO,
Themoonisdown

So anyone else… did you feel this way? Like finally we’re out of the teen category, Rob can be a MAN in movies?

  2. JellyBeanRainbow says:

Why do I suddenly feel so dirty because I prefer him as a (college)boy, clean shaven and pretty?

I’m not saying that I won’t enjoy him growing adult. But the pretty yet doable phase is so short and they turn into a men so fast. And suddenly they don’t look that hot anymore.
    Remember Leo?

    • mine!mine!mine! says:

arh, but you see Leo ate all the pies!!!!!

    • dazzledtodeath says:

Rob is so beautiful, I think he’ll age well. Look at Johnny Depp and George Clooney, among others-they only got better with age. I’m not worried about Rob.

      • mine!mine!mine! says:

        @D2D

Couldn’t agree more, he’s not a leo, (leo was never that good looking anyway – always looked like a 12 year old boy and then suddently he started to look like he’d eaten all the pies).

Rob is only going to get more and more beautiful with age.!

        • dazzledtodeath says:

haha, that’s exactly what I’ve always thought re:Leo-he looks like he’s 12. Never understood the attraction there.

        • nettie says:

DEFINITELY no comparison of Rob at any age, to Leo…Leo was NEVER attractive in any way, shape, or form. Eww.
But I do understand liking Rob as the young & pretty…although MAN Rob is even better, and that’s saying a lot.

    • minuit_passe says:

I also want young looking Rob. BUt more mature thinking Rob. If there’s one thing I trust him for is that he will age well, he’s no Leo, though some Leo-esque parts would totally do him good.

    • pukesten says:

I’m with you Jenna bean I love robward and Tyler.
I like him pretty and clean really wasnt loving the bel ami phase. then again I thought Leo was the greatest thing on earth back then!!
But I will definately go to see wfe cos I want him to do well whatever he does! And after remember me I genuinely think the boy can act.

  3. drsaka says:

WFE is giving us a whole different Rob and I like that!

    • melronin says:

A man straight from heaven drsaka??? 😀

    • tupelohoney says:

Drsaka, I like that too but I think Tyler is always gonna be my favorite Rob. That hot college boy look just does something to me….

      • drsaka says:

The more film roles- the more to choose from.
I still heart Daniel Gale. Moon, I can’t tell if that a pro-Daniel comment or not !!!! So I’ll just pretend that its pro-Daniel.

        • mine!mine!mine! says:

          @drsaka,

I also believe that was a pro-daniel comment, how could it not be. I will always have a soft spot in my heart for DG. All nerds in the world should get down on their knees and thank the gods for Daniel…it must have changed their lives considerable, cos I foreone see nerds in a completely different light now!!!!!! and just between you and I I’ve had a rather good time with one recently! :)!!!!

      • melronin says:

Tyler IS Rob!!! Tyler is as close as it gets…so nothing compares!

        • robsfuturemate says:

Mel, I think you are exactly right! That is the reason we love Tyler, it’s the closest character to Rob. Smoking, check. Drinking, check. Guitar, check. Bicycle, check (not sure if Rob’s becoming Ty on this one!).

      • minuit_passe says:

Yes, he will do more challenging parts but nothing will top Tyler’ smekiness, because that’s the closest to the real deal.

  4. YES WFE makers! HUGE thank you for turning our boy into a fiiinnee looking man 🙂 Not that he wasn’t delicious already, but that grown-up adult look is so much sexier! So glad he’s not wearing those ugly-ass golden contacts here. We get to see those beautiful blue/grey-green eyes of his.

    Team Jacob Jankowski!

  5. Beaspoon says:

UNF–the whole WFE trailer he just looks so delicious and I agree, very much grown up! The trailer is so strange because Rob actually only says like two things, but I have a feeling a lot of the movie will be that way since it’s narrated by the old Jacob. Still…I can NOT wait to see it! April needs to hurry up (and then we could skip winter, lol).

I think I’ve watched the WFE trailer 20 times now. Merry Christmas to ME, lol.

  6. dazzledtodeath says:

This trailer has me excited in ways that I definitely am not for BD. I’m excited to see Rob in a movie with A-list stars, in a challenging, intelligent role that will hopefully earn him the respect of people who think he’s just a teen idol. I too love seeing Rob as a man, in an adult role. I absolutely cannot wait for this film.

    • melronin says:

Just saw Eclipse again yesterday and although I love Edward cause through him I discovered Rob….it just did not work for me any more. The only thing I could think of throughout the whole movie (besides mumbling “oh baby…oh baby…oh baby”all the time) …was “thank God he will not have to wear this white shit all over his beautiful face much longer!

Am sure that after WFE and BA, Rob will not be refered as Edward any more or even remembered just for that role!

      • robgirl86 says:

Word! The saga is sooo yesterday… 🙂
I recently saw Twilight again, still like it, but it make me more laugh than drool…lol, and Eclipse, I think the commentary is the best part!

      • roslynselene says:

Confession time! I saw Eclipse FOR THE 1ST TIME last Friday with a friend. I knew I wasn’t going to like it but I tried to throw out all the negativity out the window and just focus on the movie. Too bad Eclipse didn’t want to cooperate. By the 1st scene, I was already saying something snarky. Then my friend (who likes Twi and introduced me to it) joined in and we ended up making our own commentary. Then we watched it with Rob and Kristen’s commentary. We laughed out loud cause Rob would say the same things we’d say.

I’ll never watch Eclipse again. Trying not to exaggerate here but it was t.e.r.r.i.b.l.e. and the fact that even Rob couldn’t distract me from the crappy-ness, is saying a lot! There were times where it got so boring (cause *nothing* happens), I zoned out and started thinking about work (!?!?!). The only scenes I liked are when Edward get’s angry at Victoria, telling her how he killed James and the Third Wife lady cause she acted way better than the rest of the cast, no joke.
        The end.

        • minuit_passe says:

I only saw Eclipse once when it was out in theaters and it stuck me so much that I never re-watched and I can’t remember anything of it.

        • natteringyeahrobber says:

I can’t remember anything memorable from Eclipse – other than the dead-end leg hitch and Bella’s “Imma virgin, now bye” discussion with her dad. Pretty slow – I think it was supposed to be action-packed and exciting, but it just came off as sorta disjointed and silly. The commentary, on the other hand, was great.

          • roslynselene says:

Oh God, that was probably the worst part of the movie. It was so awkward, leave it to Kristen to make it even more awkward. I can’t even…

        • robgirl86 says:

I remember the “fight” with Peter F 🙂 and the proposal, cause I expected Rob to burst out in laughter somehow and that’s it!

    • Rob's Flaming Dashboard says:

Hey BritPack! I know you lurk here looking for tease material for your mate Rob. Make sure you print or Fwd or whatever you have to do to get Rob to see @Dazzled to Death’s post!

      Dear Rob,
Keep doing what you’re doing in the H2O 4 Elephants trailer. You are a fiiiiiine man. I open my heart and my wallet to you!

      Love
      Me

  7. Robsessedgirl says:

I don’t know about you guys, but Rob has always been a man. my kind of man…..sorry, what was I saying? but really, THANK YOU WFE FILM-MAKERS. thank you for knowing what you’re doing and putting Rob in this ultimately career changing role. To say I’m excited for this movie is the understatement of the year. This will showcase his abilities even more, and this may be a bit far reaching but I think this may be Oscar worthy. I’m so proud of Rob. and he looks……my ovaries exploded at how he looks in the trailer. naturally. I can’t wait for this movie.

  8. robgirl86 says:

I seriously thought about 5 minutes of which part of the trailer I might be able to make a lil joke….nada, nothing, nichts, rien, NIENTE! It was just magically to me…

To me Rob was always a M.A.N., an amazing unique and beautiful MAN, no matter how he looks or which role he plays! (HP doesn’t count, too long ago) Boyish look, manly look, older look (Bel ami), student look, I don’t care, almost every pap pic shows how much man he in RL is and that is all what counts, right ? 🙂

Pirate Radio? Good film, good role, Rob instead of TomStu? Oh yeah, why not, I’d have appreciated the nekkid parts MUCH more…haha

    • melronin says:

…how much man he in RL is!
      soooooooo true….sigh…

    • dazzledtodeath says:

God yes, no doubt at all that Rob is all man. Just look at any of his photoshoots-GQ, VF, Details (gulp). I think Rob has a unique ability to look boyish one minute and all man the next, and he definitely has a boyish aspect to his personality but I look forward to seeing the manly side of him in WFE and BA.

    • robsfuturemate says:

“I’d have appreciated the nekkid parts MUCH more”

Exactly what I was thinking!!! Mmmm, yummy!

      • robgirl86 says:

BTW, as we all know that Tom googles “Pirate Radio/TomStu/Rob/Bromance” on a regular basis, he’ll read the post today, so…

        Hey Tom,
        tomorrow is YOUR birthday!
be happy, have a great day and keep the bromance alive!
        yours,
        me

P.S. Can’t believe you are older than your beanie-twin! 🙂

  9. sjaantje says:

I will admit it here, I just finished listening to the audiobook of “Water for Elephants” for the third time after watching the trailer when it came out last week. It was so good since now you can picture the characters in the books as the actors that play them.

I really hope the movie is as good as the book. This could do some great things for our buddy Rob. Personally, I like every Rob that is out there, but I agree, it is nice to see him in a more adult role.
Now, if we could just get some information on when “Bel Ami” is coming out!

  10. robsfuturemate says:

Yes, this trailer was amazing! It looked like a “real’ movie and it didn’t really showcase Rob as the reason to see this movie. (Although ET kinda did the whole Twi thing) I think it’s great for him to be put out there with the big boys and show his stuff! Yes, he looks all man but still innocent enough, like Jacob.

As I said above, I really liked Tyler buuuuut I think I’m really gonna love Jacob too, maybe more! I like em durhty I guess!

  11. MidnightCougar says:

Rob definitely looks like a REAL “MAN” in this movie! Him in that tux is beyond description. *UNF* I read WFE after I found out that Rob was going to play Jacob Jankowski & as I read the book, I could truly envision Rob as this dynamic character. I know Rob has potential to do a great justice to this role of Jacob & I hope this movie is exactly what Rob needs to give credibility to his career. I have faith in you Rob & can’t wait to see you ROCK this part!!

    Dear robgirl86:
I wanted to wish you a very Happy Birthday! Rob & I baked something special just for you. Best Wishes for a wonderful day! xo MC

  13. Vera says:

I am dying waiting the day he will look into camera and say My name is Bond…James Bond…He will then be THE MAN.

    • MidnightCougar says:

OMG Vera, I’ve said the same thing numerous times! His sex-eyes, accent, etc. would make him an exceptional James Bond, for sure!

      • Vera says:

        Hi, MC,

Yes, We will see Rob as Bond, but first he must finish the Twilight Saga in 2012. So the “experts” can forget Edward Cullen.

    • YES YES YES! I would LOVE to see him play Bond. We’re so lucky our boy is British. Once he’s over 35, he could totes pull off James Bond. I cannot wait to see that!

    • Brenn says:

Ohmigosh, I love the idea of him as Bond. I’m not sure I want to wait until he’s 35. What about a slightly younger Bond — maybe when Rob is in his late twenties… It could focus on ‘how Bond becomes Bond.’ Oh my… the thought of him with tux, a gun, and a fast car. Now what could be wrong with that?!?!?!

  14. MidnightCougar says:

Wow, check out this Fanmade WFE Trailer. It’s very well done – almost 4 min. long! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wtlGOmR5MaI&feature=player_embedded#!

  15. natteringyeahrobber says:

I have to admit I loved the barely-legal Rob in the first Twilight. He was great at playing awkward, endearing, intense all at the same time, which pretty much sums both being a teenager and being in love. When he played Edward, he made me want to be a teenage girl again, and not many movies (or men) can do that. I am looking forward to him taking on grown-up roles, though I hope he doesn’t take parts that make him too sophisticated, mature and suave – I prefer Rob “in the rough” and with a little more edge/intensity.

    • Vera says:

The first Edward is unforgettable. The author gave less importance to the second and third.

I think we’ll really enjoy Jacob (WFE) , but we’ll love George Duroy (Bel Ami), such an impudent and unashamed (and grown-up) character.

  16. nettie says:

Yes, the WFE trailer definitely shows us a very manly version of Rob, and it. is. NICE.
I was looking at one of the stills last week (and gasping out loud- how does he make that happen??), thinking how much older he looks (in a good way), and wondering how much of it has to do with the chain smoking. lol! Probably a lot. He has lines on his face like a 30-yr old…but I find every single one absolutely beautiful.

    • natteringyeahrobber says:

yah, just seeing stills of rob makes me gasp, almost (but not quite) audibly. but hearing him talk (british accent, especially) or do his heavy breathing thing during a kiss scene, that pushes my gasp to (and beyond) the audible range. i can expect his voice to get better with age, too. 🙂

  17. Cath says:

    Dear Rob,

Man or boy, you can knock on my door each day of the week. It’s all good, love you at 24, will love you twenty years from now still. But you better like older women then, hahaha. 😉

Robbing trough time(whatever that may mean),

    Cath

  18. roslynselene says:

Seems like everyone saw the Water For Elephants trailer. I went to a birthday party yesterday and chatted up with my uncle and out of nowhere he said he saw the trailer for Water For Elephants. I smiled and my eyes lit up but then I saw that the other people in front of me were giving me odd looks so I controlled myself and asked him what he thought of it. He said it looked good but that he doesn’t really like Reese Witherspoon. I told him that I really liked the book and couldn’t wait to see the movie. I changed the subject quickly before he started talking about Rob. I didn’t want a repeat of last week when my dad literally dragged me out of the Rob closet in front of everyone. Thank God my dad wasn’t listening; he was singing karaoke (which is less embarrassing, surprisingly).

    • robgirl86 says:

honey, at this point, are you really sure that the whole family doesn’t “know” ? 🙂
And…have to add, some of my friends saw the trailer as well and they really liked it, it’s promising I think!

      • roslynselene says:

Lol I haven’t told anyone! Only my parents and siblings know…and (as of last week) a few cousins but that’s it. I’m sure if anyone else knew, my life would be over. Lol

    • southernbelle says:

A friend of mine watched the WFE trailer and she really liked it. She’s totally not biased so I’m glad she felt that way.

Btw so where is the in-depth review of Eclipse? lol

  19. southernbelle says:

Sigh well I’ve always seen Rob as a man, a real man :). He just had different looks.

I’m glad he’s breaking out of the Edward shell. As much as I love Edward and anything Twilight, this is great for Rob’s career, his versatility. I’m so excited to see it on the big screen. I’m sure he will WOW us all once again.

    Dear Rob,

I’ll never get tired of you. Winter, spring, summer or fall. I’ll be admiring from afar. 😛 You just keep doing what you’re doing!

    Love,
    Sb

  20. Tiffany says:

The first thing I thought was he’s so handsome…. not “he’s soooo hot” our baby is growing up.

  21. Antonia says:

    Dear themoonisdown,
You mean it makes you feel less old, right? Sorry I didn’t mean that. But if you think this makes Rob look like a man, then wait till Bel Ami! Oh, and Rob never looked like a teenager in the Twilight movies. Pretty obvious.
    xoxx,
    Antonia.

    • robsfuturemate says:

But Rob was SUPPOSED to look like a teen in the Twilight movies! I’m pretty sure they say he’s 17, right? He looked as much a teen as the other twenty-something actors! Just sayin

  22. LatersBaby says:

I just came from a Christmas dinner with friends where I received my third RobTwi inspired gift of the season (gee, I thought I was in the closet).

When my friend’s three year old little girl looked at my Rob calender, I asked, “He looks like Ken, doesn’t he?” (She loves Ken and Barbie). She agreed with my assessment. That’s when it occurred to me…Robowski looks like Ken to me, my childhood image of the perfect boy.

From the little girl inside of me, thank you WFE!

    • roslynselene says:

Lol He *does* look like Ken (sorta)! I think cause of the hair, the blue(?) eyes, and the tan-ish skin color. Although Rob looks better than Ken any day! 😛

Haha! I got my first Twi/Rob gift this weekend. It was an Eclipse fleece throw! My friend (same one who watched Eclipse with me) gave it to me this weekend. I think she did it on purpose cause she knew I thought Eclipseward looked scary. Lol It already scared the crap out of my mom when she came over.

  23. allyctwilighter says:

Hell yes, finally! These pictures killed me over the summer! I think the hot, sweaty, hard working, dirty, drinking a coke in a muscle shirt Jacob (in this movie) … just might send me overboard in the theater. Just sayin’! Dirt, sweat, and a lil bit of stubble, and whatever he is dowing with the lower portion of his mouth. AND he is playing a 20 something virgin, who has NO IDEA what he’s doing when it comes down to doing it! I loved how that was written in the book, and can’t wait to see it in the movie!! Hello, it’s gonna be swwwweet!

  24. strangely_enough says:

I’ll be thrilled if Rob has learned to act. There’s no way he could have pulled off The Boat That Rocked/Pirate Radio. Tom Stu is a natural; Rob needs some time and experience to season.

    • Mieze says:

I actually can´t say anything about that since I haven´t seen the film yet and the only movie I watched with TomStu was the one where Shakespear fell in love with him…no idea what it is called right now. Since he is a child actor he might have more experience than Rob at the moment, but this two are simply very different characters and producer choose whoever they think is right for their rolls, whether the reason for that is money, their imagination of the character or whatelse might be in the head of a movie maker. The only thing I am sure of is, that there is enough room in this world to allow Rob and Tom to follow their passions and do whatever they want to do. It doesn´t matter who is the better actor if they are both happy.

      • strangely_enough says:

Yeah they’re nothing alike, and who would want that? I was simply saying if Tom did, as the OP suggested, find out about the role after Rob passed on it, it’s very good that he did. I love Rob, but I think he does his best work in interviews. I’d like to see him in more comedies, or at least lighter dramas where he’s allowed to be more adorkable and less InTenSSSSSe (and FFS, let him use his own accent). He doesn’t play anger well. Sullen and sulky, yeah, but when he has to spit out a few lines of “rage” he channels Captain Kirk (You should be… … … RIVETED!” Ugh, Kstu moment). I think he is on his way to being a capable, solid actor, and he just needs to find his style and his niche. In remember me, one of the very few scenes that didn’t have me cringing was the one with the crystal bowl (ashtray), where his inner dork shone through.

I’m always blown away though when I read these fawning comments about what an amazing actor he is. He’s just starting out, and he’s really the farthest thing from a natural. He needs to right roles and the right direction and i think he’ll do well but again, as far as I’m concerned he’s done his finest work in interviews, just being Rob.

        • Mieze says:

First I´ve got to say, that this are just my opinions I do not consider them as the only thing right or true, since they are all based on my thoughts. I don´t know Tom and what is way more sad I don´t know Rob 😉

” I’m always blown away though when I read these fawning comments about what an amazing actor he is…”

I think the reason why a lot of people say this is because Rob is able to create intense, anxious and vulnarable feelings for the characters he potrayes. Which is remarkable, even if it is based on his own fears or whatever it is that allowes him to make them. That´s the reason why his rolls ( Toby and Taylor) seem very complex to me and the reason why I think that he has a lot of potential for a 24 year old. I am so curious about Bel Ami, I want to see how he does arrogant and shallow.

“I’d like to see him in more comedies, or at least lighter dramas where he’s allowed to be more adorkable…”

How much developing would that be for someone like him? It´s always easier to put yourself out there in a funny kind of way, because you are able to say “oh, I wasn´t taking myself serious as well!” And I do believe he is capable of more, but after Edward- is that a roll actually 😉 -, Taylor, Toby etc. it would be nice to see him in a lighter way again.

          “He doesn’t play anger well…”

Do you for example remember Taylor when he stormed into this meeting of his Dad telling him it is not enough? I think he did pretty good. But there are other scenes where I rolled my eyes. Don´t get me wrong, I am not trying to convince to change your opinion, what I actually want to say is there is still a lot to come from him and he has the right to have weaknesses in his acting and develope from there.
I´m studying in a field where you have to adopt a lot of knowledge and just recently I realized that you are not able to be good in all things at the same time. You just start somewhere and work you way. Some of my professors tell me that I’m really talented in a special field, but there are subjects I simply have not enough lore, but it´s okay, I still have time to learn it.

Coming to Tom I totally agree with you, who wants them to be just like each other 😉

        • Mieze says:

Jesus, strangely_enough , you made me write a book 😉 Sorry, I got carried away here…

    • TwiMe says:

      interesting observation about tom sturridge….
Also someone mentioned rob as 007? srsly?

  25. Alex says:

I love Daniel, Cedric,Fali, Edward, Tyler and Jacob. I see something common about these characters….ROB

Rob is such a charismatic man. To me he is a keeper.

Hopefully fans and nonfans will see this movie.Just cant wait.
