Roblosophy: An unhealthy obsession

RoblosophyDear Rob,

Today we’re gonna get serious. And I don’t mean that “Friday Serious” when I say we’re gonna get serious and then after the jump post pictures of you and TomStu swapping underwear & doing a gig with the rest of the Brit Pack. I mean like really serious.

Awhile ago we got this email from someone who mistakenly thought we had contact with you:

Subject: This concersns Rob. Please help m in distress

I am a 29 year married woman.

I have been a fan of Robert Pattinson from a very long time.I am in love with his mannerisms, his smile and his marvelous eyes. I love watcing his interviews. No I am not in love with the character of Edward that he potrayed in Twilight series. But I like to see him in his original self rather than in movies. I know this is weird because I havent met him so I do not really know him. But inspite of that for the last two years I am literally in love with him. Now this has reached a stage of TRAUMA for me.I am not able to eat or sleep even. I want to meet him badly..even if it is just for once in my entire lifetime. I know his life and mine are entirley different but I feel that i will feel better if I meet him just once. But I do not have any contacts to reach him nor do I stay in the USA..I stay in India. So I know that my chances of my wish being granted is nil.

I am losing out any interest to live. This may be aggravated by the fact that I am trapped and being tortured in a loveless married life. Now I have become sort of frustrated every moment I wish that talking to Robert will make me feel good. I just want to lead my life in a normal way,I also want to enjoy my life. But I am in so much pain that I am unable to do so.This feeling is killing me.

Sounds completely crazy I know..but thats how it is for me. Pls help. I will be really grateful if somebody helps me out of my terrible condition.

Please mail me back at my this e-address.

At first I hoped it was a hoax- a not-so-funny-but-nice-attempt joke by an LTR reader at faking us out to think they thought they were writing to Rob, but really they were writing to LTR. But… I’m afraid this one, like many who have come before it, feels too real.

The first thought running through my head after I read this was of horror and sadness. I immediately forwarded it to Moon, then teared up while telling Mr. Choice about it (Moon comes before Mr. Choice. Always) He immediately told me I had to write her to tell her we didn’t know Rob (which he says about every crazy email or email from 11 year old giving out full personal details of her life including street address, phone number, school & teacher) and I was torn- what if writing back to her made it worse? She thinks for 3 seconds while the email is opening that Rob is going to get in touch, only to find out it’s me, crushing her dreams? When did it become my responsibility to “police the internet” and respond to people who do something questionable or get the wrong impression (The ethical plight of a blogger- a conversation for another time. I have many times written back to the 10 year olds who give out personal information online, advising them against it. But if I wrote back to every kid thinking we were Twilight, that would be my full-time job.) But my ethical dilemma got me thinking about yours:

We got this e-mail because she thinks we have contact with YOU. She’s not feeling these things because of ME. It’s not my role or lack-there-of in her life that caused her this emotional melt-down. And if we’ve gotten a few letters of this type and we’re not even you, I can’t imagine how many more letters have been written just like this one with unrealistic expectations that you can’t or should’t have to meet. I can’t imagine that pressure.

Maybe you don’t even read your fan mail. (Probable) Maybe you can’t read anymore because of all the Heineken and processed food you’ve consumed (also Probable) Maybe a jealous girl in your life intercepts your mail & shreds it before you have a chance (Stage 5 Clinger?) or maybe there is some class celebrities take at celebrity school where they’re taught by a season psychologist on how to deal with the ethical dilemma of people having expectations that they should not, of having feelings you never asked them to and you not being able to, not wanting to or not needing to really do anything about it.

So why exploit a young girl’s troubles like this on the internet? Well, there’s nothing else to talk about- wait no- that’s not it. I’ve wanted to talk about this for awhile. Because people are passionate about you, Rob- in good ways & bad ways. I can argue about it with those who disagree, but a lot of the “passion” is unhealthy. Maybe not “I will commit suicide” unhealthy, but there are varying levels of unhealthiness in this fandom. Sometimes I want to shake people and remind them whey we liked Twilight/Rob/each other in the first place- because we had something in common. And LTR has always existed to make fun of things- so no one should be surprised when we do, but I digress.

So today I want to think about this letter writer and those like her (maybe someone reading this LTR today?) I want to think about how her “acute fondness” of you turned into unhealthy obsession and make sure I and those I love (all those reading, plus a few others who will read tomorrow but not those who will read Sunday because that’s too long to go without LTR) don’t pass the threshold of healthy Rob-lovin’ to unhealthy, possibly certifiably crazy obsession.

God I just got preachy. Sorry about that. Or just call me Sister UC. I kinda like it.

Love,
UnintendedChoice

Soooooo… what do you think? What turns normal-Robsessing into not normal Robsession? Where do you think you fall on the line of Normal Obsession to possibly unhealthy? Too embarrassed to admit in the comments? Take this poll:

I remember feeling that way about Corey Feldman. When I was 10. It’s a #normal part of adolescence. Not sure about it as an adult. Maybe it’s just fantasy out of hand?

    • hermes says:

In India all they have is Bollywood. Isnt that enough to drive someone over the edge? — Robbie is just the catalyst. I’m sorry, but when I read letters like this, I can’t help but see all the batshite crazy fangirls that stalk our lad. People need to seek help if the love gets to be bizzare you know? The fantasy is fun, but leave it at that, Rob is a fantasy… and um Rob if your reading this.. OMG OMG OMG I’LL KILL MYSELF IF YOU DON’T GO WITH ME TO THE PROM! –sigh.. enough said.

  2. dazzledtodeath says:

Whew! I was getting a little worried about where I might fall on that scale, but turns out I’m a nice, healthy, normal 6. I DO think about Rob every day, and sometimes a pic of him gives me a little twinge that he’s not mine, but I’m ready to do anything rash, nor do I ever expect to be.

You’re dead on when you say there are a lot of unhealthy people in this fandom. Get some perspective, step back and realize that there ARE more important things than Twilight and yes, even Rob.

I feel for this woman, I can understand to a degree what she means, but she needs more than a meeting with Rob to figure out what going on in her life.

    • The Old One says:

Could have something to do with the “trapped in a loveless marriage” part?

      • dazzledtodeath says:

Clearly, and that is so sad. I can’t imagine what that must be like. For her the fantasy is so much more than a pleasant daydream-it’s more like a coping mechanism. She needs real help, and I hope she gets it.

      • adrienne says:

that was my first thought to “trapped in a loveless marriage” and i’d like to add “in India” where she may not be able to express her thoughts as much about her “loveless marriage”…that’s so sad…

  3. drsaka says:

Dear UC, thank you for your serious comment. Its difficult to know how to respond to such a letter. Perhaps its best to hope that the woman will see this, feel invited into this entity that you and Moon created here and take some comfort from the community.

You are so correct about the passionate reaction to Rob. But I think that a healthy response to the passion that we feel (to one degree or another) is to have fun with it. Just as we do on LTR-

    Yours in healthy acute fondness,
    drsaka

PS- I don’t know how Rob deals with the amount of emotional energy directed at him either.

    • dazzledtodeath says:

      drsaka,
I don’t know how Rob handles it either. To go from having a normal life to being the object of adoration for millions, all normalcy gone, is an unenviable position to be in. Yes, he’s compensated in other ways, but what a burden it must be to try to live up to people’s expectation of him. The most he can give is an autograph, a smile, a handshake-he’s so good to his fans, but there are always more wanting something from him. It must be exhausting. He handles it with an incredible amount of grace and levelheadedness.

      • melronin says:

        Word!
He is THE absolute Rockstar and he handles it great!
And honestly I think he would have made it to fame even without the saga.

      • drsaka says:

        Agreed- grace and levelheadedness.

      • goodgirlgoneplaid says:

        D’accord!
I think this is why I find watching red carpet stuff and intervews like the ones on oprah so second hand embarrasing.
BUT! I think its also what I find sooo adorkable about Rob. The fact that he doesn’t have this professional veneer in place, or acts like he expects the adulation, but just tries his best to handle it. You know PapaPattz refined stylee.

      • goodgirlgoneplaid says:

    • Alex says:

Its not easy for him. He has said that several times that he had felt that energy and he felt helpless as he could not do anything about it or he could not give anything back to them.

He goes through a lot and he tries his best to make fans happy. Its an emotional roller coaster. This is why I respect him.

    • LattersBaby says:

      Well Said Drsaka!

Not to bring up the beard again…but it is any wonder that one such as him would create an additional barrier/boundary between himself and the world? I know this is just one interpretation of the beard…but I see it as a symbol of distance.

    • BellaDonnaReed says:

A while back after the awful “car accident paparazzi video fiasco” I sent an actual letter to Rob via his agent apologizing for the crazy draining aspects of the fandom and thanking him for being him. I felt it was the least I could do, not like the letter ever got to him but you know, I figured send a little nuturing thankful energy his way to counter act the insanity of it all….

  4. Um, while I was reading this letter, I had a thread full of Robporn opened in another window. Is that considered as an unhealthy obsession?

BUT, I’m 6 on that poll. I think about him everyday. That’s how far as my obsession goes. Someone please tell me this is normal.

  5. Nelle says:

I wish I could understand how these books and movies and even the actors have made such an impression on us- from the “normal” obsessed to the sad, unhealthy obsession. I predict that someday there will be studied done to try to figure it out. The only hope for this person would be if she could stay busy in her own happy reality but it doesn’t sound like she has that option. Too sad.

    • P.S. says:

You predict correctly: http://www.examiner.com/twilight-in-national/twilight-college-course-up-and-running “Examines the Twilight saga and the resulting fandom.”
Maybe they will be studying the LTT/LTR archives!

    • LattersBaby says:

Studies are being done right now. Though I have yet to offer a full course on Twilight (possibly next Fall). Aspects from the Twilight phenominon have made it into several of my courses (Gender, Theory, Philosophy)

      • drsaka says:

Interesting! How did people receive the addition of Twilight in your material?

        • LattersBaby says:

Actually, quite well. I mix in a good number of pop culture examples–especially to make the headier stuff more understandable. The Gender discussion is always interesting…I think Bella is an “and/both” example…in some ways, she epitomizes many feminist tenets in other ways, destroys them. The debate over Bella’s feminism–or lack there of–mirrors our current cultural dialog about the definition of feminism.

          • LattersBaby says:

I’m sorry–anytime I get serious in these posts, I think I sound like an ass. Forgive me if I do, I just get excited about my obsession and my career merging.

          • Rob's Flaming Dashboard says:

            @LattersBaby
Don’t worry, you don’t sound like an ass. This is freaking fascinating and I for one am happy to analyse the TwiWorld to bits!

          • drsaka says:

No need to apologize. A little serious discourse is good for us. I agree about her character- a bewildering/frustrating/maddening mixture of traits. There’s been lots of discussion about the Bella character- its pretty interesting.

          • JellyBeanRainbow says:

You’re the professor mentioned there? Who writes Seduced by Twilight blog? It’s an interesting blog and course. I remember some years ago when I wanted to go to UK to attend a course on Buffy, but didn’t. This sounds perfect, tell me if you accept out of USA / one course only students.

          • LattersBaby says:

@JellyBean…no, I am not the professor from the link & this is not my course. However, I am doing research on the Twilight & the Fandom.

          • SesannE says:

Excellent observations. Moon/US, how about a “Twi-Class” Thursday to talk more? Our guest prof is right here!

          • LattersBaby says:

First, thank you to those who thumbed up my ass comment. *giggles*

@sessannE—I am honored by your suggestion. If UC, Moon, and The Community would like me to lead some weekly discussion, I would be game. I have much to learn from all of your insights. Due to my late reading of Twilight, I’m sorry that I missed so many great discussions.

          • drsaka says:

            Sounds intriguing!

          • P.S. says:

Somebody on LTT last week suggested a group read and discussion of BD. I’ve just read the books for the first time this past May and would love to discuss!

  6. Aleisha says:

    Dear Moon & UC,
Is it wrong that her letter, while making me sad, also makes me feel better about myself? Yeh, I thought so.

    Sincerely,
    Just-a-#6-on-the-scale

P.S. The fact that I have smutty fanfic currently opened on my computer and that at least 8 pics of Rob are saved in my documents under the title “Lovely” and I’m STILL only in the middle of the obsession scale really makes me worry about those who are sevens, eights, nines, and tens.

  7. misty says:

OMG I had to stop reading to say STAGE 5 CLINGER omg your hilar!!!!!! kI’mdone…back to reading…..

  8. misty says:

I’m between a 4-6…….I guess that’s why LTR makes everything feel NORMAL…we laugh at what he wears and says, we break things down, ignore elephants in the room, etc….my hubby has actually accepted my convos about Rob bc I mention what goes on here at LTR…he is aware that we just don’t talk about his hotness all day….but GD he’s sooo pretty, even with glasses. lol

    • adrienne says:

it’s embarrassing but i have to admit i’m kind of a 6.5 because when i think of him dating Kristen, that sort of annoys me (normal) and i think things like, why can’t he date Natalie Portman or someone like that? (even more normal)

  9. natashadushi says:

Dear sister UC, let’s sing we are the Rob and everything will be fine…… I think I am a bad fan! I don’t know when Rob’s b-day is #badfannr1

  10. Cazza says:

I’m going to Forks next week with the Twitarded crew and all their clingers – totally normal isn’t it?

    X

    • eatmyjorts says:

And I for one am looking forward to the film/photos/blog of this…more than I actually want to be there. Please be embarrassing on my behalf. XXX

      • Rob's Flaming Dashboard says:

Me too Jorts, me too. I see the Twitards acquired a unicorn to be their onsite paparazzi!

        • Cazza says:

That’s right RFD, an anonymous Twitard donated some funds to the cause and Gus is now our official photographer/videographer. I feel sorry for him.

My bail money has been safely wired to the Forks Bank and I am prepared for all events. My DH has informed me that I am on my own with this trip and don’t even consider calling him with my allotted one phone call from jail – true love it is.

          X

    • JellyBeanRainbow says:

Normal, I’d go there with LTR/LTT crew anytime.

    • tankergirl says:

      Yep. Normal.
I’m dying that I can’t get away to Fooooooooorks to participate. This type of activity is exactly the healthy & rewarding part of the fandom. (Well, my husband wouldn’t think so, if I was available to spend a thousand bucks going to the boonies to party with strangers)

The ones I worry about are the people who scold us for poking fun. Do they think their valiant efforts are noted by Rob, as though they constitute a significant part of his life. I’m sure he’s far more horrified my what’s going on with his image in the fandom manips!! Can you imagine?! ;D

  11. Lula says:

Last week while in Vegas, Scott & I met this adorable British couple in their mid-twenties and ended up spending most of the day with them. They’re now our new BFFs and we’re totally gonna “hoiliday” with them someday. They asked us if Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt were the biggest stars in America and Scott replied, “No, Christina Hendricks and that Pattinson vampire dude.”

(Please love that he said Christina Hendricks–because when he hears “biggest,” he immediately thinks of her boobs.)

Simon & Louise, our new British BFFs began laughing and told us a few interesting tidbits about Ron:

    1. All Americans pronounce his surname incorrectly–the T’s are silent. (Which is impossible for our accent to handle. But oh, in the Queen’s English, it sounds brilliant.)

    2. He’s not *that* big a deal in the UK…unless you’re a teenager or rabid Twilight fan. (When I asked, “So he’s not hugely famous there as he is here?” Louise tells me, “Well, he WAS Cedric Diggory!” SO MUCH WIN!)

    3. Simon’s lone comment about Ron was, “His lady is quite lovely, I’ll give him that.” I asked Simon who this purported girlfriend was supposed to be (while my husband rolled his eyes) and his reply was, “Your one who’s in the movies with him. Isn’t that right? Even I know that I and I don’t give a f*ck about the man.”

    AMAZING!
(Also, I so love the phrase “your one” and “your man.” I wanna live in Ireland again. Or England. But not Scotland.)

And then the conversation quickly ended because Louise told me Take That are doing a reunion tour and we started singing “Back For Good” and reminiscing about British boy bands.

There’s some Roblosophy for you. From the Garden of the Gods pool at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas. For whatever it’s worth.

    Please love me.

    • robsfuturemate says:

      So lovin Simon and Louise!!!

    • dazzledtodeath says:

still trying to figure out how to pronounce his name with silent T’s.

    • Kendall says:

Please tell me Simon was a ruddy brit. I love me a ruddy brit.

      • Lula says:

Kendall, he was as ruddy as Cedric in GOF. KID YOU NOT. Totally adorable and when we hugged them farewell, the totally kissed me. ON THE MOUTH. In front of Scott, all well and proper.

        I know, right?

He was also hilarious and he got my husband drunk and he called Louise a “fat ass” even though she was nothing of the sort. But the way he said it was full of love and she knew it and we knew it and it was brilliant. Yes, I love Simon. He and Louise are our Facebook pals now. Of course.

    • Janetrigs says:

I love you always, and thanks for calling him RON.

    • Cazza says:

So *cough* do tell me what is wrong with Scotland?

      • eatmyjorts says:

Except for the fact that my Mother (Monster)-in-Law comes from there? Pull up a seat Cazza, we could be here a while:

        Exhibit a) the food
        Exhibit b) the weather….

Am obvs only joking. Please don’t publish my real name UC & Moon…

      • Lula says:

That was a joke–about Scotland. You know–the Irish slag on the Scots and the English, the English hate the Welsh and everyone else, etc., etc., etc. I just have loyalties to Ireland because I lived there in the Summer of 1997. Just a joke. That’s all. Promise.

        • pa-in-son…I can’t say it correctly. I dislike Simons comment about the shrew being lovely. I love how his name is Simon..I want to get new British bff’s on vacation!

        • Cazza says:

I’m Scottish, gotta defend my home turf. Historically, Ireland has sided with Scotland, even Wales, it’s poor old England we had a problem with.

In terms of the T pronunciation, I have to disagree. It depends on your accent and where you live in the UK. All my friends with Paterson/Pattinson (and all the different spellings) surnames would be mortified if I dropped the T!!! Call me a posh bird but the T is there for a reason!

          X

          • SesannE says:

My English DH has a “neutral” accent, and he would NEVER drop his “T”s, despite having lived in the US long enough to now pronounce schedule as ske-jul instead of she-jul.

          • dazzledtodeath says:

I’m sure I’ve heard Rob say his name, and he pronounces the T’s. Except maybe when he’s three sheets to the wind.

    • pukesten says:

(Also, I so love the phrase “your one” and “your man.” I wanna live in Ireland again.

ha ha ya thats such an irish thing. yer wan and yer man!!
where did you live in ireland?!

yeh Robert Pahhinson isn’t anywhere near the superstar over here that hs is in the US

  12. melronin says:

Oh I’m nr.6, no question about that! And I also feel for that woman in India very much. I can understand her and how it feels to live in a country so far away from Rob where he probably will never step foot! It’s that feeling of having no hope whatsoever in running into him that hurts the most!

Also I never liked the term obsession what Rob is concerned. I always called it love…and love has stages…and love has levels.
Passionate people also love passionate and hurt passionate… every emotion is extreme, it’s a constant balance between logic and insanity. Greeks are like that, trust!

And guys…seriously, am thankful that I found you…you keep me sane and def closer to Rob.
UC I hope this girl from India, not only wrote you a letter once but also discovered the healing powers of the LTRsisterhood!
If yes, and she reads us..then…
Sister, you are not alone…I feel you!

    Love
    Mel

  13. Allryans says:

Ron and LTR and Smeyer and Summit – none if them are responsible for people’s reactions to Rob. (well maybe summit is). Depressed people, people wth addictive or jealous personalities, people that are simply unhappy with their lives, adolescents who dont know better, or adults who havent matured past adolescence, or people who are just the teensiest bit delusional – they make bad choices and let a celebrity whom they know solely through YouTube dominate their minds. It’s sad, but if they didn’t have rob they would have to find something else and they would.

This letter broke my heart. But even a healthy dose of reality – meeting rob could be fun for a moment, but not for your lifetime would do little to get through to someone this unhappy with their lives and their place in the world.

It makes me appreciate that rob being so damn pretty and adorkable makes my life BETTER not worse.

    • superhumanmoron says:

      YES. That is all.

    • melronin says:

Rob makes my life better because of the simple fact that he exists in this world! He simply makes the world shine! But there are days were it hurts just looking at him and I assure you honi
I’m not depressed nor jealous nor addictive nor anything you mentioned above!
I’m just a woman…and Rob has all sorts of effects on me!

    • Kendall says:

Sadly, everything you have said is true.

Twilight is a story that has affected all of us in one way or another–whether we were happy in our stage of life or not, it left a mark. Unfortunately for those that are experiencing pain and troubles it just another escape from reality and another item to direct insecure, selfish and any other negative feelings at…it’s heartbreaking.

I wish we all could admit Rob is just some hot brit dude who sort of acts well, can sing (sometimes), has questionable taste in clothes but looks damn good in photo shoots. It doesn’t matter who he dates, what he drives or who he is friends with because we will never become a part of his life. We should just be celebrating the fact we have one more hot piece to look at.

  14. robsfuturemate says:

It seems like a lot of us are No. 6’s, I am as well. But some have questioned my passion for Rob. They are not Normal and I think this only happens to me because I’m pretty open about my fondness. (Am I deluded myself here?!)
The poor woman in this letter does break my heart. I hope she finds some happiness in her marriage and her life as a whole. Where’s ItsReallyRob when you need him?! We could really use his perspective on this!!!

  15. Alex says:

I am so upset about this letter. I hope she find a better healthy solution to her problems. This is not new to me.Deep inside me I knew there r people who are unhealthily obssessed with him. I hope i wont become one of them.

As far as my situation concerns I am 100% sure that I am not in love with him and dont necessarily want to meet him. I just love him too much so that I stalk him on internet everyday. I just want him to have a good happy life both professionally and personally.

But I understand he can be very very very dreamy. He has such charisma..I dont even understand our obssesion.I dont know any one whom fans are so obssessed with in recent year.

I like to thank these Rob fan sites for providing fans an opertunity to express thenselves and help us to be normal.

Thanks guys and stay healthy for Robs sake. Lets say he needs us. LOL

PS: I am sure Rob gets a lots of letters like this. I feel sorry for both Rob and fans.

  16. Alex says:

IMPORTANT note for MOON and UC.

Please MOON … posting a pricture like this wont help the situation. You should have used one of his modeling picture.LOL

OMG OMG OMG Rob looks F**king HOT here. Rob with glasses is hot. Now I am obssessed with his long neck and glasses.

    • dazzledtodeath says:

YES! Rob please get glasses, even the fake ones that normally annoy the hell out of me! I’ll give you a pass b/c you look so damn hot with them!

      • Alex says:

Yes he does. I like to see him with glasses.

Look at his pinky lips, long neck, wild hair, unshaved jaw…those eyes

Rob is DREAMY. Its not healthy. But he is so dreamy that I cant stop staring at this photo.

  17. Janetrigs says:

Where’s the choice on your survey ->> Insist on calling him Ron.

  18. sjaantje says:

Whew! Just voted and I am still normal. Okay, I can go on with my day now.

  19. m says:

i left another HUGELY pop site for this very reason…..judgement.

  20. just realized option #5 on the poll was messed up. I fail

    11. Has been reading twific for over a year now and STILL pictures Rob which induces sighs. Has shelves full of REAL books but hasn’t picked one up because there’s no ‘Rob’ in them.

    12. Is now a Twific author when you have NEVER attempted to write a ‘story’ since a book you ‘made’ called ‘Cinderella’ in kindergarten.

I’m torn between voting between these two. 🙂

    • LadyN says:

ok, now that i’m at lunch i got to read this.

      Holy moley.

She doesn’t need Rob, she needs a savior. 🙁

i feel terrible about her life and being trapped in a loveless marriage. My heart goes out to her.

And ok, I admit at my peek of Robsession, I FELT like this. But then I’d faceslap myself. Or at least tried for a long while. Still. When I KNOW I’m heading this direction that is unhealthy, i run away. I like, go to church or something. Talk to my mom about life and her childhood, get grounded again (normal thoughts) to snap out of it.

29 girl trapped in a loveless marriage, ROB will not make it better! Trust me. 🙁 I’ve been there, done that.

He barely knows how to tie his own shoes. He’s a young kid who can just say a line or two with emotion infront of camera. that’s it. He takes dumps and pops his pimples just like we do.

I feel for you. And seriously get you. But yeah… <3

      • JellyBeanRainbow says:

No, not Rob, he’s perfect, he doesn’t do poop or pee or has pimples…. at least in my world
        #normal

        • roslynselene says:

He poops rainbows, pees liquid gold, and his farts smell like sunshine. #facts

          • roslynselene says:

Wait who am I kidding? This is ‘I-don’t-wash-my-hair-or-change-my-clothes-or-take-off-the-stupid-cap’ Rob. Lol Sorry, Rob. You don’t poop rainbows. 🙁 So stop eating the damn skittles! It won’t happen.

        • LadyN says:

I was waiting to see who’d pick up on the ‘Rob poops, he’s normal.’ LMAO! This is what I tell myself so I can breathe and deflate the cloud I’m sitting on when obsession sets in. So, I made this for you….

          Exhibit A: Rob poops. HE’S NORMAL! http://www.fileden.com/files/2007/11/27/1610595//robpoops.jpg

SEE?? works every time! BWAHAHAHahahahahhahahaha! *runs out*

  22. Alice_NaA says:

At the absolute peak of my robsession I might have spend some amount of time everyday thinking how amazing it would be if he was my boyfriend. That was mostly in the shower or before I went to sleep. But I really don’t get why people want to meet their idol so badly? Even it’s just for a stupid picture? I’m really not interested in second best. It’s either the full on schmexy time behind the dumpster or magazines slowly making their way to the throw away pile while visiting LTR for the articles.

    • Aleisha says:

I totally agree! While I love drooling over Rob and my vibrator and husband are both thankful that he’s *reinvigorated* me, I know if I saw him in real life, I’d just probably leave. Do not want a picture with him. Do not want to force him to have some fake conversation with me. Do not want to hear about his hubba hubba time with KStew. Sometimes, the fantasy should stay just that way: fantasy.

    • Wendy says:

I am right here with you.
I unhealthy obsess about Rob IN MY DREAMLAND…
My expectations are off the charts. If I met him, and he did actually smell bad (to the point I would have to discreetly cover my nose and mouth), or I am somehow reminded he really is JUST a 24 yr old boy….and that our age difference is really just creepy….or any of those RL scenarios…. I would be CRUSHED. For this reason…Rob will stay where he belongs: catapolted on a high pedastool….in my DREAMS.

No desire to meet the man. But I will continue to fantasize…until LTR tells me that I am indeed, NOT NORMAL.

  23. I don’t think my obsession has ever been normal. Everyone knows about it, I have two cardboard cutouts…yeah, it’s not normal. Am I embarrassed? No. Do I feel like people are insulting MY MAN when they say he’s “creepy” or “gay”? Sometimes. Yes, I voted I could’ve written todays fan letter. But you guys won’t look down on me for this, right? I hope not. We’re normal, no matter the degree of obsession.

  24. lola says:

Where I find the fandom sorta creepy is when grown women have some weird mixture of lust and maternal impulses for him. Like they want to do him, but in the next sentence worry if he’s eating enough, or if Katy Perry or Kristen Stewart or Nikki Reed are good enough for “their” boy. Pick a side! And remember he’s 24, not 12.

Otherwise, fantasize away as long is you remember he’s a stranger to you no matter how many times you’ve youtubed him. I know I do. lol

    • Alex says:

That is exactly why Rob should date an older woman. They can give him both. Our boy seems a handfull. he needs good amout of taking care. Like bubble bath, shave, dress up, cooking & washing LOL

I personally dont want to do anything with him or to him. He can do whatever he wants….as long as he is happy…I am happy.

PS: I am not that old. Only 30yrs…better than Demi Moore LOL

      • Alex says:

        I missed one.

Drive him to school..I mean movie Set and drive him back home.

He should date a creepy older woman. LOL

PS: I dont mind Kristen…I dont think he dated Nikki..only went out for Dinners with friends and family.

PS: Please guys dont start robsten and nonsten arguments .

      • robsfuturemate says:

The Demi/Ashton age gap works well for them! (says the one who is a bit older than you!)

      • lola says:

🙂 I think he would drive an older woman batty honestly. stephanie probably wants to stab herself in the eye every time she needs to babysit him on a Soho run. lol

    • The Old One says:

Us creepy older women just want to cover all the bases, just in case. Whatever the job description is, we’re versatile that way.

      • dazzledtodeath says:

Don’t judge too harshly. You’ll be one of us one day. FTR, I am much more interested in banging Rob than feeding him.

      • enviro says:

I sent just such a “thank you”-type letter in a birthday card. When the only legit address you have for someone is a snail mail address, that’s the one I use! So he’ll never read it — I just wanted to say it.

      • lola says:

that’s exactly why Robert doesn’t deserve an older woman…..they’re too capable and generous for his own good. He’s in his twenties–and boys in that age group are self centered little buggers. A good older woman would only enable him, baking him his favorite cookies post coitally before mending his ripped shirts. I can just see him all spoiled in bed when she brings him cookies, his mouth frowning as he said, “I said I wanted oatmeal-chocolate chip, not peanut butter! “

    • LattersBaby says:

      @Lola:

When reading Twilight, did you not notice how Edward buckles Bella in her car seat, carriers her on his back, makes sure she eats, watches her sleep, sings her the lullaby, protects her/saves her over and over again?

If you think it is strange that women here who the maternal and romantic thoughts towards Rob is strange–you should look back at the saga and see how SM mixes the paternal with the romantic. Ask yourself if any of these behaviors increased your attraction to Edward.

      • lola says:

latters-meh, I like Edward but I thought he was very neurotic. Him being overly protective of Bella to me was him being more parts Woody Allen than Cary Grant. I’m more a Cary Grant woman myself.

I do find it strange to both infantilize Robert while sexualizing him. I think most women have it in them to be nurturing and sexual at the same time with men. But women(not here necessarily, just in the fandom in general) lust over Robert while at the same time acting like he’s incapable of picking out his socks or choosing enough veggies in his daily diet or picking bed partners. I find it somewhat patronizing, but it’s not that big of a deal. I’m trying not to judge too harshly, I fangirl over Rob myself, so I have very little room for judgement in that sense.

      • lola says:

ps: I don’t think Edward is being paternal-he’s of a different species, and bella is vulnerable in his world. He’s protective mainly because she’s human.

      • LattersBaby says:

I’m not necessarily disagreeing with you. In fact, I think you brought up an excellent point; one that I think about often. Our culture frequently infantilizes while sexualizes. My point is that we see it everywhere– yes, some of the fans do it, our advertising does it, romance novels and films, including Twilight–etc. Historical novels–and ones with historical characters like vampires–allow us to go back in time where “fragile woman/protector man” was more acceptable. Since you singled out that fans on LTR do this, I wanted to note that it is a ubiquitous practice and not just one found here. I think it is sort of fun to watch the fragile man/protector woman turn around.

I think we do have different reads on fantasy fiction. Although the saga takes place in a fantasy world, the themes explored are ones found within our world and therefore can be read as metaphorical…for me, that is what makes it interesting. Edward does these things b/c he is a vampire and she is fragile in his world. Yes, but the behavior we see is analogous to parent protecting child from adult world.
All and all, interesting stuff. My late night post–sleepy typos and all–was not meant to offend.

        • drsaka says:

Hi again, also remember that SMeyers, on purpose, made Edward grow up in the Edwardian era and right into WWI, when such practices were expected of and standard for of a young gentleman.

        • lola says:

Hi latters -no offense taken at all, it’s nice to discuss for the sake of it and not making it personal. lol

I was singling out the twihard fandom, and rob’s fandom by extension. Basically Edward Cullen is Britney Spears in the “I’m not that innocent” phase. Flip sides of the virgin whore complex if we want to look at this from a gender perspective I guess. I mocked grown men liking Britney’s naughty school girl phase too to be honest. lol But the mixture of innocence and sexuality will always be alluring to people, that’s just the reality, whether it’s Marilyn Monroe or the Backstreet Boys pulling it off.

Yes, interpretation is definitely subjective. I agree about the metaphorical as well, I tend to see Edward as a 17 year old boy really more than anything, all youthful arrogance that is yet very fragile. I tend to see his behavior towards Bella, at least in Twilight, as one of a pet more than anything. His arrogance derives from him assuming superiority the way I would assume superiority over a dog. I find a lot of humor from that, since Alice and Emmett outrightly treat Bella as a new puppy they get to dress up or watch roll over. lol

See, this is much more fun to discuss than whether rob loves kristen 4ever or is secretly seeing a mystery blonde from Japan. haha

  25. fdrinconnue says:

I think it’s not obsession, it’s love. We are in love with him. Because with all these interviews we know him much better than our neighbor. So it’s normal to fall in love with a so nice and funny guy.
Then there is all the robporn in internet, these blogs giving new stuff every day. I think this is what makes the obsession. In the first times I was not interested in Rob’s body or even face, only in his thoughts. But all these pictures in HD, all these hot videos make me understand and finally feel the average desire for men (I didn’t even imagine girls liked to look at men’s pants). and knowing many things about him, where he is, what he is doing, we think that in a way we live with him.
So if love is normal, Rob’s love is normal. What is new is the fact that thousands or perhaps millions of women feel it at the same time.
But hopless loves are not new, movie and books say it.
This love is not crazy as long as it makes us happy : happy to see the pictures, to know about him, etc…
It is crazy if it makes us sad. Sadness comes when we want things we can’t get. Then thinking is useful :
why would i want to meet Rob ? HE Doesn’t want to see me, so what ?
Even if he is beautiful, I can’t imagine to make love with him because he doesn’t love me.
    So what ?
Take this love as a gift, like the pleasure of seeing a good movie or reading a good book. Let’us enjoy of thinking of Rob, hearing him laugh, watching his interiews, trying to guess what he thinks…and no more ; and not all the times ; let’us fight against that addiction.

  26. Cath says:

Wow, serious Roblosophy for real here. Were I Rob and lurking today, I’d eat a whole roll of Hobnobs after reading this. It’s sad.

    Ms. India E-sadness, maybe you might read this;

Don’t lose your love of life because of Rob, rather stay on the Robwagon and use the Rob to bring more joy in your life!
Listen to his interviews and put his giggle on repeat. And then start to work on your life in a positive way! Pretty sure Rob doesn’t want anyone to be unhappy partly because of him, that’s not how it should be, for anyone.
So if you’re reading this: Rob giggles it is, the glass is half full, not half empty, okay? See your Roblove as something that is a source of joy and will make everything make better! But only you can take your life in your own hands. Easy said, I know, but still…

Giggles of Rob times a million,

    Me

  27. Wendy says:

Had to leave a serious comment cuz my conscious is shouting at me to do so.

I am first, greatly concerned for this reader. This obsession is obviously stemming from her real life situation, which could be really horrific – it’s hard to say. But she sounds desperate. I hope she sees today’s letter and some of the responses…..and can put things in perspective. I imagine it would be easy after being trapped in a horrible situation, to envision Rob/Edward (who is nothing short of perfection in our imaginations) swooping in and saving the day. If meeting Rob is something that keeps her inspired to move forward every day, then, maybe that isn’t so abnormal or bad… However, if she is convinced that upon said meeting, that he will suddenly fall hopelessly and madly in love with her and rescue her from her life….that’s probably not a good thing. I sincerely hope and pray she can find more positive things in her life to keep her going.

My other concern is for you UC (and Moon)! The pressure you guys must feel after getting letters like this. I’m a fixer, and just reading this one gives me anxiety! While I know your rational mind is telling you there isn’t much you can do, it still weighs heavy on the heart. It’s one of the things I struggled with while being a social worker…you can’t save everyone.

I’ll be sayin’ a little prayer for you.

    • Wendy says:

      Uhg….
That’s supposed to be conscience, not conscious…
      *embarrassed*

    • eatmyjorts says:

I’m with you on this Wendy… (I’m in a similar job)

I was worried by the despair & helplessness of the writer, & the feeling (unrealistic to the max) that talking to Rob may help, in a significant way. For us Westeners reading this we may think ‘oh ditch the loser husband & start over’, but culturally she may not be in a position to do this, & there maybe children involved.

What I would say to her is, if you can write one letter, you can write more, not to Rob, but maybe to a forum for people in unhappy situations, or similar. Maybe to the Samaritans, & get online help. You may feel more significant & worthwhile if Rob knows who you are, but you are worthwhile & significant anyway, & there’ll be lots of people wanting to help you.

  28. hermes says:

Hey… If I were living in India I’d want to kill myself too…. nothing but Bollywood. But I digress….. um.. where were we? oh yes..moral of the story here is: Batshite crazy fans come in many cultures and
she should get behind the Robstene’s…. Now that I’ve pissed people off.. (ahem).

Changing the subject here.. –TomStu!! (my little cupcake!) Where are you?? In London with Robbie to see the Queen…. or rather BE the Queen… (sigh). I miss you! Pleeeezeee come back to California to my home town of San Francisco (you and your beard) and I’ll buy you all the Heineken’s you can guzzle and we shall walk arm and arm into the Castro and stroll down Polk street (where I will protect you from getting poked). No kidding the main street of our lovely gay district “the Castro” is is called Polk street. Where there are warning signs to clench your butt cheeks tightly together or risk getting violated.

    • drsaka says:

Hermes, I’ve never given a serious thumbs down before, but I gave one you. I realize that you were joking, it your post failed badly as a joke on many levels. Please re-tune your sensitivity barometer.

      • melronin says:

Agree totally drsaka! This girl from India wrote a letter to LTR and shared her feelings. We are not here to judge or to critize her in any way! We are here to support her…make her feel that she is not alone! If there is any girl on this blog that Rob did not through out of balance in one way or another…well good for her!

Rob would def NOT marry your comment hermes…sorry!

        • robsfuturemate says:

She is not alone!! We here at LTR say that we are Normal. But really, the fact alone that we come here daily and write comments and converse (forget the secret stashes of Robporn, the loads of ff and all that other Rob rubbish we may have) people would call us CRAZY. We need to support all our fellow Rob lovers from around the world, no matter their level of passion. Poor girl, that she is in a loveless marriage. Good thing she has Rob/Twilight to help have some fantasy. I’ve been there, Twilight is a great escape! And, there are horrible cultural things that go on in India, so give the girl a break!!

          • melronin says:

            Word!
And maybe there should be an extra explanation in the dictionary for the word CRAZY! Cause it’s one thing to be “crazy” and another to be CRAZY FOR ROB!…or maybe not?
And me has def to learn proper english…all sorts of mistakes in the above comment! oh my 🙁

        • southernbelle says:

          So not alone. Nope.

    • southernbelle says:

That was rude and uncalled for. I hope that you’ll realize that someday.

    • tupelohoney says:

Hermes: like many others here, your comment offended me. How could you be so insensitive?

    • Cath says:

So repeating your earlier post more or less is your reply? Wow, you must need an outlet pretty bad today…
Nice try changing the subject with TomStu, also pretty sure Mr. Sturridge aka ‘not your little cupcake’ wouldn’t want to be mentioned in this blatantly unfunny, ignorant post.

Fuuuunnnny, where are you funny??? Because I can’t find it. Right now I’m kinda wishing that reincarnation exists because I’d love for you to experience life in another part of the world somewhere down the road. So is the US Hollywood in your way of logical thinking? Like India is equal to Bollywood, wait, I think I found the funny now…

It’s such a fail remark that it’s almost funny indeed.

Am also quite sure ‘Little Cupcake’ will refrain from visiting SanFran for quite a while now…Which is a shame, such a nice city…
I do like your clever way of hinting at both of them being gay, haha, so smart. (ummm…no) Have to say though that you made me clench MY buttocks, of second hand embarrassment that is.

And btw, OMG, so Rob won’t take me to my prom?????? Thank God, because it’s been a while and we don’t do proms here…
Sigh, so I can just go for a beer with him then? Yes, I’m still delusional, takes more than one unfunny ‘messenger of the gods'(your screenname) to cure me.

      Thanks for listening.

P.S. I’ve already decided that your hate of India must be caused because you suck at yoga…(insert irony)

  29. southernbelle says:

Wow, I’m a little worried about this woman. I feel bad for you honey. I’m sorry you’re stuck in a loveless marriage. I wish I can be there and help you to get out of it. Life is too short to not be happy. I hope you can find the will to be happy, even without Rob. It can happen. Because the reality is, most of us, even us here living in the United States, will probably never meet Rob( *sobs). It’s a fact. I’m sorry.

About me, I really love Rob. There were times I was really obsessed, but nothing like how the lady in the letter sounds. I guess it’s because there’s just a lot of turmoil in my life, I can’t get too sucked into Rob and not be able to fulfill my duties in real life. However I will say that Rob has been a wonderful distraction to me. The past 3 yrs has been the most difficult time of my life(and for my family too), and I’m glad I can come here and forget about the nitty gritty of it even for just a few minutes. I’m glad I can come here and laugh and fawn over Rob because there are many days I really think I’d go insane if I didn’t have a distraction.

  30. robsfuturemate says:

I was just re-reading this letter and was thinking how lucky I was to find Rob after my marriage ended. (Yes, I watched GOF but the timing wasn’t right for us!)

Twilight was a great escape for me. It allowed me to go to another place that was much more interesting and fun than the one I lived in. Reading Twi had healing powers for me. I realized that I was stronger than Bella. I got out of bed every day and went through life. I picked up the pieces of my life and kept going!

Rob was the next to help me! I found you guys here and realized I’m NORMAL!!! (to a degree, No. 6!) It’s great to come and chat with fellow Rob lovers and make some new friends!

I hope that Robsessed In India can find some sort of support for her unhappiness and a community where she feels safe to be herself! LTR is here with open arms, honey!!

Thanks again to all you lovely ladies, UC and Moon for creating a home for all of us!!

    • melronin says:

      AMEN!!!
      <3

    • southernbelle says:

      Rob was/is my therapy. lol

    • LTavares2010 says:

I totally agree with almost everything was written here, especially with what southernbelle wrote. Rob is my therapy and my therapist too. His smiles, his laughter, the way he looks are very good natural medicines to me. For having a healthy life: ROBERT PATTINSON, lol.

    • pukesten says:

      that was cool RFM!
While we’re all sitting around wearing tweed and sharing – I’m majorly trying to climb the career ladder these days and sometimes i think (worry?) that Rob/LTR/fanfic distracts me from not having a relationship at present, but then I think f*ck it it’s harmless, legal and no one gets hurt!!

i think it’s just part of human nature that some people develop an unhealthy dependence on certain things, alcohol, drugs, gambling, even celebrities.

      • robsfuturemate says:

Aww, thanks P.sten! I think that as long as you have a balance in your life everything will be alright. Some days my balance is really off kilter! I too think that maybe I should be out there “trying to have a relationship.” But Rob is really hard to live up too! (Plus, it’s a little terrifying!) Keep your head in the game career wise, I know you can do it!

  31. glitterlube says:

    Girl from India,
I’m sorry you are in a loveless marriage and feel trapped. Loving Rob during this time can be a blessing, right, Sister UC?

Use your robsession for something worthwhile.

When you can’t sleep, create fantasies in your head about how you will meet him and take off his clothes.

Do try to eat something. You may meet Rob and you’ll need your strength.

    Your english is great!

p.s. do you have a good recipe for Aloo Gobi Masala? I think Rob likes Chicken Tickka Masala, so send me that, too.

  32. Vera says:

I have lost some interest in Rob´s life. I don´t mind who he is dating or if he is gay, even. I just want to see his work in WFE and Bel Ami, I am sure that will be pleasurable.

Of course I think he is so cute, his face so cute, so strong, I can even picture him as Master of Universe.

Maybe that romantic Indiana girl should read some fanfic.

  33. Pattygirl says:

Robsession is like an energy boost in my life. its very healthy!

  34. cedvanhalen says:

Is it just me, or is Rob really hot in glasses??

Ok, now I’m off to actually read the letter. Just got distracted for a bit.

    • LTavares2010 says:

It is not just you. Rob is really hot in glasses. Rob is sexy when he is smoking, when he is drinking beer, drinking refrigerant… Rob is irresistible when he is doing anything or when he is not doing anything or when he is wearing anything or when he is wearing nothing (lol). The word “sexy” was invented only for him. Rob makes everything be sexy, hot.

  35. MidnightCougar says:

Well, I’m kind of like #’s 5, 6, & 8 all rolled into one. Normal right? I think Rob is absolutely adorable & gorgeous, but I still think I’m within “the threshold of healthy Rob-lovin’”. I also follow his music & acting career some. I’m just reading WFE right now (great book btw!) & I’m really look forward to seeing him in this movie. Also, I still have a firm grip on reality, with my own family; I think I’m ok in my Robsession – I have both Rob & my “normal’ life, so, for me, I have the best of both worlds.

  36. Cathy says:

This is the 1st time I am leaving a reply on LTR and I really wish it was not about this, I am from India as well and its very sad that people think there is only Bollywood to India and nothing more, just a few pointers – an Indian invented the “0”, we are a nation were we speak 29 languages and and surprise yes surprise all urban Indians speak, write and read extremely good english so maybe these patronizing people can get off there high horses and be rational and tolerant about other countries and cultures.

My heart does go out for the Girl/women who is stuck in a love less marriage and she is probably not seeking the right solution by thinking – meeting rob will help her. Maybe it would be courteous if the rest of us were not judgmental considering all of us are obsessed with Rob on scale ranging from low to high.

As far as Rob stepping foot in India only time will tell.

Just another update – right from Obama, president – he envisions India to be the 3rd leading country in the world after the the US and China. Maybe some food for thought.

Considering Rob comes across as such a down to earth person, its highly surprising that some of his fans are so snotty.
